Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is an American TV journalist anchor and commentary anchor for NBC News based in Washington D.C. After growing up within New York City, Mitchell received a degree in English literature from the University of Pennsylvania. In 1967 Mitchell became a reporter for KYW Radio and TV in Philadelphia. 1996, she became a reporter for WDVM-TV Washington DC, a CBS-affiliated station (then WTOP). In Washington she was named general reporter by NBC News two year later. In 1981 began working for the White House and became chief Congress correspondent in 1988. She became chief White House reporter in 1992, and chief Foreign Affairs correspondent at NBC News. Mitchell has appeared in the TV news program Meet the Press as a host and panelist. Mitchell was a panelist during the presidential debates in 1988 between George Bush and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is the wife of Alan Greenspan a former chairman the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell was awarded in 2005 her Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism in the John F. Kennedy School of Government. In 2004, Radio-Television News Directors Association, (RTNDA) recognized Mitchell for her contribution in defending First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell initially covered for the White House for NBC News from 1981 to 1988, during both Ronald Reagan's presidency. Mitchell reported on a variety of important stories including the Iran Contra scandal, budget tax reforms as well as arms control. Mitchell traveled together with Ronald Reagan on numerous occasions to summits and debate matters including the Iran Contra scandal.
